Call for Application: European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) Country based support scheme (CBSS) for Russia/ DL: 15.03.2017

The European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) is a European Union programme that aims to promote democracy and human rights worldwide through support to civil society initiatives.

 

The EIDHR is designed to help civil society to become an effective force for democratic reform and defence of human rights. It also offers independence of action, which is a critical feature of cooperation with civil society organisations at national level, especially in the sensitive areas of democracy and human rights.

 

The global objective of this call for proposals is to strengthen the role of civil society in the Russian Federation in order to enhance respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms and to promote democratic dialogue.

 

The specific objectives of this call for proposals are:

  • raising openness and communication and increasing civic engagement;
  • promoting tolerance, inter-cultural understanding, social cohesion and freedom of speech;
  • supporting human rights defenders, civil society initiatives and organisations, as well as independent media.

The overall indicative amount made available under this call for proposals is EUR 6 000 000.

 
Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between the following minimum and maximum amounts:

  • minimum amount: EUR 200 000
  • maximum amount: EUR 650 000

Non-governmental organisations, as well as non-profit-making universities established on the territories of the Russian Federation or another EU Member State are welcomed to apply.

 
Actions must take place in the Russian Federation. Types of action and activity include: Human Rights related trainings and seminars; capacity building trainings for CSOs; cultural events dedicated to democracy and human rights topics; support to grassroots initiatives and promotion of social media, innovative interactive tools for citizens’ communication and engagement.

 
The deadline for submitting applications is the 15th of March 2017.
