Call for Expressions of Interest to Host International Civil Society Week April/May 2019: Balkans and Black Sea Region (DL: 7 March 2018)

In 2017, the CIVICUS Board of Directors determined to hold the International Civil Society Week – ICSW 2019 in the Balkans and Black Sea region and is currently looking for a local partner to join them in hosting the ICSW (April – June 2019).

 

Based on a set of initial criteria relating to civic space, income levels, and operational factors, the following countries were selected as potential hosts: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.

 

The International Civil Society Week 2019 local host partner will be selected based on the following criteria:

 

  • Potential impact for local and global civil society
  • Knowledge and experience of the national/regional civil society context
  • Expertise in fundraising and convening major/international events
  • Outreach capacity, including non-capital, rural and grassroots environments
  • Networking capacities with civil society, multi-stakeholder groups, volunteer groups and academia
    Organisational stability and track record
  • CIVICUS membership and/or previous partnerships and affiliations
  • Evidence of organisational and financial governance, registration with national authorities
  • Good track record of environmental sustainability credentials

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

CIVICUS envisions the following roles and responsibilities in co-hosting International Civil Society Week 2019, which would be further discussed and articulated with the successful applicant.

 

Local Host Partner:

 

  • Secure core funds required to ensure success of International Civil Society Week
  • Engage Local Host Committee to mobilise local support and ensure local relevance
  • Support International Civil Society Week outreach and communications
  • Co-facilitate event partner selection and programme development
  • Provide centralised event logistics and select service providers
  • Manage budget, finances and reporting

CIVICUS:

 

  • Assist in resource mobilisation and cover costs associated with the CIVICUS events and personnel
  • Convene Programme Steering Committee to mobilise partners and ensure global, sectoral, thematic diversity
    Support International Civil Society Week outreach and communications
  • Co-facilitate event partner selection and programme development
  • Share tools and resources for event logistics based on international convening experience
  • Provide oversight and sign-off on budget, finances and reports
